About Greenstone Soap Company
Greenstone Soap Company was established
in 1996 with a very simple philosophy of life and work ... “have faith,
do what you love, don't make a bigger mess then you can clean up, use tools
rather than machines, laugh often.” And we still live by these ideals.
Over
the years, Greenstone Soap Company has grown into a premier manufacturer of
handmade herbal soaps and natural body care products. We use only pure
essential oils and other all natural ingredients from the plant kingdom,
making our herbal soaps and bath care products some of the best found anywhere.
Here is a little slice of our story. Greenstone
began as a part-time wholesale herbal soap and body care products business,
originally located in Atlanta, Georgia. Shortly after launching Greenstone,
we (Kate and Bruce Rodgers) made a decision to expand the company into
a full-time business. We also decided to move out of the city and relocate
in the north Georgia mountains. In the early fall of 1996 we quit our full-time
professional careers, packed up, and headed out of town to pursue the ancient
arts of small business and herbal soap making.
It is often noted that no business grows
without facing challenges. Our first year was an exciting time of learning
to snatch success from the jaws of defeat. However, the thought that we
would not succeed never entered our minds, and we plowed ahead believing
in ourselves, our products, and our future. As a result, our little company
began to grow, as we created many new products and unique packaging.
In
our second year, we made what to many seemed like a foolish, crazy decision.
We bought a Tipi and went looking for a place to set it up. We also needed
a building where we could make our handmade herbal soaps and other natural
body care products.
In the spring of 1997, we found what we were looking for. For a time, our home
and corporate headquarters for Greenstone Soap Company, was a Tipi set in a beautiful
grove of young Pin Oaks, overlooking a grassy field on the property of a friend
(we made soap in a small garage also on the property). This is certainly not
the path to growth for most companies, but to this day we look back on that experience
as one of the most profitable and creative times in the life of Greenstone; with
no television, no newspapers, and almost nothing to dust (hence no distractions).
All our energy and creativity was freely focused on the business at hand - and
if the truth be told, it was sheer fun ... and, go figure, the business continued
to grow.
Time moves on
and so did we. Greenstone soon outgrew that setting ... and two others. This
year (2006) we settled into our current location overlooking the Sautee-Nacoochee
Valley near Helen, Georgia. If you are ever in our area, we extend to you an
invitation to come visit our retail store. We are located in Sautee, in
the beautiful north Georgia mountains in White County, on Hwy. 17, across from
the Old Sautee Store in the Sautee Junction shopping area. We are open
every day 10:00am to 5:30pm and Sundays 11:00am to 5:30pm. Our winter hours,
January through March, sometimes change, so it is a good idea to call
ahead during those winter months- 706-878-5901. |
